Native Bitcoin Support in Nova Wallet
How we added native Bitcoin support and direct swaps between SOL and BTC inside Nova Wallet.
Bringing Bitcoin into the wallet
On April 17, 2026, we added native Bitcoin support to Nova Wallet and enabled swaps between SOL and BTC. I worked on this release from the perspective of a wallet developer who wanted Bitcoin to feel like part of the product, not an external destination. The goal was simple to state and harder to execute well. A Nova Wallet user should be able to manage Solana and Bitcoin without changing mental models every time the network changes.
We treated the Bitcoin wallet experience as a first class part of Nova. That meant presenting balances, addresses, transaction status, and swap intent in the same clear language we use across the Solana wallet. We also connected the SOL and BTC swap flow so users could move between the two assets from one place. The important improvement was continuity. The wallet could explain what asset was moving, which network was involved, and what the user was approving before anything happened.
This release mattered because crypto wallet interfaces often make network boundaries visible only when something goes wrong. We wanted the opposite. Nova Wallet should expose the information a user needs while keeping routine actions understandable. Native Bitcoin support expanded what the wallet could hold, while the SOL and BTC swap path reduced the need to assemble a workflow across separate products.
For our team, this was also a foundation for building a broader wallet without weakening the product discipline we had developed on Solana. We kept the interaction direct, preserved user control, and made the result readable in activity history. That combination made Nova more useful as both a Solana wallet and a Bitcoin wallet while keeping the experience coherent.
